MYTH: “The ACA is forcing people out of small business”

FACT: Companies with 50 or more full-time workers must offer employee health insurance that meets a set of minimum requirements or face a penalty. Smaller companies are not subject to this requirement, and in fact are able to obtain coverage for their employees through a new marketplace, where they may be eligible for tax credits. Learn more:

The Bonnie Doon ice cream story – Newt Gingrich said on Sean Hannity’s radio show that Indiana ice cream maker Bonnie Doon is shutting down because of Obamacare. The economic realities seem much murkier.

The Sean Hannity stories – A Hannity show on Fox news in October 2013 featured three married couples who were “feeling the pain of Obamacare and the healthcare overhaul train wreck.” But the couples’ remarks did not seem to jibe with the basic facts of the Affordable Care Act – so a reporter fact-checked them.
