LGBT Cultural Competency for Assisters and Navigators

LGBT Cultural Competency for Assisters and Navigators

These recommendations were developed in July 2013 for assister/navigator personnel who would be engaging directly with uninsured New Yorkers, including LGBT people. Members of Health Care for All New York’s LGBT Task Force held a conference call on July 11, 2013, to identify LGBT cultural competency issues that we believe should be addressed in the upcoming training of In-Person Assisters/Navigators (and potentially Certified Application Counselors) by the NYS Health Benefits Exchange. The call included presentations by task force members from the Callen-Lorde Community Health Center, the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Services Center. and the LGBT Exchanges Project of the Center for American Progress.
