Escape Fire: The Fight to Rescue American Healthcare is a feature length documentary on the state of the U.S. health care system. Since its premiere in January 2012 at the Sundance Festival, it has won numerous awards and become a focal point in the campaign to find a way out of what seemed to be an intractably broken system. The film’s title derives from the practice of clearing a charred zone to stop an approaching wildfire when no path of escape exits.
The film is available to watch online from iTunes, Amazon and a number of other outlets and on DVD. Physicians and nurses can obtain CME credit for viewing the film. The film’s website features a “First Aid Kit” and fact sheets on the core issues. Watch the trailer:
Learn more about the film and the movement surrounding it:
Health & Disability Advocates hosted a special showing of Escape Fire on October 5, 2012, to celebrate 20 years of its successful work in pursuit of health and economic security for all. A full house packed Chicago’s AMC Loews Theater for the event. After the film, distinguished guests – including chairman of the Cook County Health and Hospital System, David Carvalho and Dr. Kohar Jones from Doctors for America – discussed the importance of changing the conversation about our nation’s system of “sick care” to one of health and wellness. Health & Disability Advocates subsequently gave “guided tours” of the film.
